3. Terms & Conditions on Services Offered by the NTU Online Portal
The following section dictates the specific terms and conditions pertaining to the usage of the following Services offered by the NTU Online Portal.
3.1 Dashboard
The Dashboard is the “Homepage” for all Users. It contains links to the following services:
- Alumni Profile;
- Alumni Directory;
- Alumni Connections;
- Events;
- Messages;
- Blogs;
- Groups;
- Job Portal;
- Advertisements;
- Invite Friends;
- Notifications;
- Feeds;
- Dynamic content authored by the Administrator:
- Where Alumni Work: A static image, which shows the distribution of Users in the Portal, according to the organisation they are currently employed at;
- Registration Statistics: A static image, which shows the current month’s number of new User registrations;
- Photo Gallery: A random set of images selected from NTU Alumni-related events, presented in a banner format.
The specific terms and conditions for each of these Services will be detailed further in the following sections.
3.2 Alumni Profile
The Alumni profile page displays individual User’s personal, educational and professional information. It also allows Users to Connect with other Users. As part of the privacy settings, each User has the option to select the types of profile information to be displayed to other Users.
By viewing the Alumni Profile in the NTU Online Portal, you agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- Not to use the service to copy, transfer or distribute personal information of the alumni available in the Alumni Profile Page;
- Not to use the service or the information or content disclosed to you via the service:
- In any way which is unlawful, offensive or could result, in damage to property or injury to any person, including by harassing or threatening people;
- In a way which infringes NTU or any other person’s rights (including intellectual property rights and moral rights).
- Not to allow, whether knowingly or not, someone else to use the service in the above mentioned manners;
- You allow your own profile to be searchable and/or viewable based on your selected privacy settings. You allow connections based on your own preferences. NTU is not liable for any disputes arising from viewing of profiles and/or connecting to other Users due to User negligence or oversight in updating and/or maintaining his/her own privacy settings.
3.3 Alumni Directory
The Alumni Directory allows Users to search for and view other Users profile page, based on search criteria. The individual User may choose to have his/her own profile hidden from the search results, based on his/her individual privacy settings.
By accessing the Alumni Directory in the NTU Online Portal, you agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- Not to use the service to data-mine or conduct automated searches of the alumni data available in the NTU Online Portal;
- Not to use the service to copy, transfer or distribute personal information of the alumni available in the NTU Online Portal;
- Not to use the service or the information or content disclosed to you via the service:
- In any way which is unlawful, offensive or could result, in damage to property or injury to any person, including by harassing or threatening people;
- In a way which infringes NTU or any other person’s rights (including intellectual property rights and moral rights).
- Not to allow, whether knowingly or not, someone else to use the service in the above mentioned manner;
- You allow your own profile to be searchable and/or viewable based on your own privacy settings. NTU is not liable for any disputes arising from Alumni Directory profile search due to User negligence or oversight in updating and/or maintaining his/her own privacy settings.
3.4 Alumni Connections
Users may receive requests to connect from other Users. All Users have the prerogative to accept or reject these requests. The User may also, through his/her own privacy settings, allow or disallow incoming connection requests. Once connected, the User may view the connected User’s profile and send messages to him/her.
By connecting with other Users in the NTU Online Portal, you agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- Use this service only for the sole purpose of alumni networking and communication;
- Agree to be responsible for the content of all your message communications (Detailed below, under “Messaging”);
- Not to use the service or the information or content disclosed to you via the service:
- In any way which is unlawful, offensive or could result, in damage to property or injury to any person, including by harassing or threatening people;
- In a way which infringes our or any other person’s rights (including intellectual property rights and moral rights).
3.5 Events
Users are able to view, register and make payment for events posted by Administrators and/or Alumni Associations. Administrators have the right to maintain, update or remove any event in the NTU Online Portal.
By registering for an Event in the NTU Online Portal, you agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- You have authorised NTU to videotape and photograph you and you grant NTU the license to use your video images and photographs in NTU related promotional materials;
- NTU will/may collect, use and/or disclose your personal data for conducting publicity and/or the development of promotional materials for use by NTU.
Further Detailed Terms and Conditions will be specified in the individual Event registration pages.
By creating an Event in the NTU Online Portal, Alumni Associations agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- The Event is organized for the purposes of professional or social networking for NTU Alumni;
- The Event is not organized for any individual User’s financial gain or gratification;
- The Event will be subject to NTU Administrator approval;
- The Administrator reserves the right to amend the details of the event or reject and/or cancel it, without necessarily providing any justification.
3.6 Messaging
By accessing and using the Messages service in the NTU Online Portal, you agree to be responsible for the content of all your message communications and you agree to undertake not to use or permit anyone else to use the service in the following manner:
- Not to publish messages which are/contains:
- Suggestive, paedophilic or sexual in nature;
- Violent, Shocking or Graphic in nature;
- Impersonating or harassing other people;
- Infringing on existing copyrights;
- Inciting Racial and Religious hatred;
- For individual profit and gratification;
- Personal or confidential information;
- Promotion of distribution of prohibited goods and services;
- Spam, Malware and Viruses;
- Illegal materials;
- Content which are for a purpose other than which we have designed them or intended them to be used.
- NTU reserves the right to suspend or terminate a User’s Account if the User infringes on the above-mentioned terms and conditions, without necessarily providing any justification to the User. The User may also be reported to the relevant authorities; The opinions and assertions contained in the User’s messages are that of the individual User’s own personal views and does not necessarily reflect the official positions or policies of NTU.
Users may report any User who has infringed on any of the above-mentioned terms and conditions. NTU reserves the right to conduct a thorough investigation of any abuse cases reported. The User agrees to provide full cooperation to assist NTU in the investigation process. The decision made by NTU is final and binding.
As a general rule, these text only messages will be kept private and will only be retrieved for the purposes of dispute investigation and resolution.
3.7 Blogs
Users are able to create and maintain their own Blogs. The Blog contents are shareable within the NTU Online Portal and on the User’s Social Media platforms. Other Users may view, comment and “Like” other Users’ Blogs.
By accessing and using the Blogs service in the NTU Online Portal, you agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- Not to publish content in the Blogs section, be it in the form of text, imagery or media, which are/contains:
- Suggestive, paedophilic or sexual in nature;
- Violent, Shocking or Graphic in nature;
- Impersonating or harassing other people;
- Infringing on existing copyrights;
- Impeding on Racial and Religious harmony;
- For individual profit and gratification;
- Personal or confidential information;
- Promotion of distribution of prohibited goods and services;
- Spam, Malware and Viruses;
- Illegal materials;
- Content which are for a purpose other than which we have designed them or intended them to be used.
- NTU reserves the right to suspend or terminate a User’s Blog and/or Account if it infringes on the above-mentioned terms and conditions, without necessarily providing any justification to the User. The User may also be reported to the relevant authorities;
- The opinions and assertions contained in the User’s Blog are that of the individual User’s own private views and does not necessarily reflect the official positions or policies of NTU.
Users may report any Blog and/or User whom infringed on any of the above-mentioned terms and conditions. NTU reserves the right to conduct a thorough investigation of any abuse cases reported. The User agrees to provide full cooperation to assist NTU in the investigation process. The decision made by NTU is final and binding.
3.8 Groups
Users are able to form and administer Groups. These Groups formed may be based on Class, Faculty, Location, Alumni Association or Interest. The User who formed the group becomes the group administrator. Other group members may make/share posts, comment and view group members.
By creating a Group in the NTU Online Portal, you agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- The Group is created for the purposes of professional and social networking for NTU Alumni;
- Not to publish content in the Groups, be it in the form of text, imagery or media, which are/contains:
- Suggestive, paedophilic or sexual in nature;
- Violent, Shocking or Graphic in nature;
- Impersonating or harassing other people;
- Infringing on existing copyrights;
- Impeding on Racial and Religious harmony;
- For individual profit and gratification;
- Personal or confidential information;
- Promotion of distribution of prohibited goods and services;
- Content which are for a purpose other than which we have designed them or intended them to be used.
- NTU reserves the right to suspend or terminate a Group if it infringes on the above-mentioned terms and conditions, without necessarily providing any justification to the User. The Group Administrator and/or members may also be reported to the relevant authorities;
- The Group administrator will be responsible for approving/moderating the following:
- New member requests;
- New member posts/comments;
- New event posts;
- New job posts.
- The opinions and assertions contained in a Group are that of the individual members own private views and does not necessarily reflect the official positions or policies of NTU;
- NTU reserves the right to approve/moderate the Group at its own discretion, without necessarily providing any justification to the Group Administrator and/or Users.
3.9 Jobs Portal
Users and Administrators are able to post Job advertisements on the NTU Online Portal. Users may search for, view, apply for jobs and upload their Resume on the NTU Online Portal. Job advertisements are subject to Administrator’s approval.
By posting a Job advertisement in the NTU Online Portal, you agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- The Job advertisement does not contain the following:
- Misleading, unreadable or ‘hidden’ keywords that are irrelevant to the job opportunity posted;
- Inaccurate, false or misleading information;
- Content that is discriminatory, sexually explicit, obscene, libellous, defamatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, or hateful;
- Content which infringes on any existing copyrights;
- Descriptions that impersonates or relates to unrelated job opportunities or companies;
- Descriptions that do not comply with applicable local and national labour and employment laws;
- Self-promotion or advertisement for personal gain or profit;
- Self-distribution franchises, pyramid schemes or Multi-Level Marketing opportunities;
- Solicitation for sexual services or for jobs of a sexual nature;
- Content which are for a purpose other than which we have designed them or intended them to be used.
- NTU reserves the right to reject or remove a Job advertisement at its own discretion, without necessarily providing any justification to the User;
- NTU is not involved in the actual transaction between employers and candidates. As a result, NTU is not responsible for User Content, the quality, safety or legality of the jobs or resumes posted, the truth or accuracy of the listings, the ability of employers to offer job opportunities to candidates or the ability of candidates to fill job openings;
- You assume all risks associated with dealing with other users with whom you come in contact through the Jobs Portal service provided by the NTU Online Portal. We expect that you will exercise caution when using the Jobs Portal service provided by the NTU Online Portal;
- As a convenience to Users, the Jobs Portal service provided by the NTU Online Portal may include links to external web sites or materials, which are beyond NTU’s control. NTU is not responsible for content on any site outside the NTU Online Portal.
3.10 Advertisements
Users are able to request Administrators to post Advertisements on the NTU Online Portal. This service is currently complimentary for Users but is subject to Administrator approval and vetting.
By submitting an Advertisement to be posted on the NTU Online Portal, you agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- The Advertisement does not contain the following:
- Misleading, unreadable or ‘hidden’ keywords that are irrelevant to the content posted;
- Inaccurate, false or misleading information;
- Content that is discriminatory, sexually explicit, obscene, libellous, defamatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, or hateful;
- Self-promotion or advertisement for personal gain or profit;
- Solicitation for sexual services or for jobs of a sexual nature;
- Content which violates any code, regulation, directive or law in Singapore or any jurisdiction;
- Content which infringes on any existing copyrights;
- Content which are for a purpose other than which we have designed them or intended them to be used.
- NTU reserves the right to amend, reject and/or remove an Advertisement at its own discretion, without necessarily providing any justification to the User;
- NTU will not be responsible for any errors or inaccuracies in advertising materials;
- NTU will not be responsible for any transactions that may arise from any advertisement. Such transactions will be entirely a private agreement between the User and Respondent. NTU will not be liable for results or transactions arising from the advertisement that fail to meet the Respondent’s expectations. The Respondent will have to be fully aware of all possible risks and liabilities that may arise when he/she enters into a transaction with the User;
- The opinions and assertions contained in an Advertisement are that of the individual User’s own private views and does not necessarily reflect the official positions or policies of NTU;
- As a convenience to Users, the Advertisement service provided by the NTU Online Portal may include links to external web sites or materials, which are beyond NTU’s control. NTU is not responsible for content on any site outside the NTU Online Portal.
3.11 Invite Friends
Users are able to invite other Alumni to register and log in to the NTU Online Portal. This invitation can be sent to the User’s own “Facebook Friends” (Through the “Friend List”), “LinkedIn Connections” (Through the LinkedIn Connections) and “Gmail Contacts” (Through Google Contacts”).
By inviting an Alumnus to register and log in to the NTU Online Portal, you agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- The invited Alumnus will need to go through the “Log In” process as defined in Section 2.3 of this document.
- The invited Alumnus, after completing the “Log In” process is also liable for every term and condition stated in this document.
3.12 Notifications
Users will be able to receive the following types of notifications on their dashboard:
- Requests to Connect from another User;
- Requests to join a Group (that the User is currently an Administrator of) from another User;
- Activities such as new posts or comments from a Group;
- A request to create a new Group is approved;
- A response from another User regarding the User’s posts;
- Job Applications;
- Upcoming Events;
- Event cancellation;
- Event Feedback.
3.13 Feeds
Users will be able to post the following types of content on their own feeds:
- Text;
- Images;
- URL links;
- Embedded Audio or Video from external sites.
Users are also able to comment, like or share their own feed content or other Users’ feed content.
By accessing and using the Feeds service in the NTU Online Portal, you agree to the following terms and conditions stated:
- Not to publish content, be it in the form of text, imagery or media, which are/contains:
- Suggestive, paedophilic or sexual in nature;
- Violent, Shocking or Graphic in nature;
- Impersonating or harassing other people;
- Infringing on existing copyrights;
- Impeding on Racial and Religious harmony;
- For individual profit and gratification;
- Personal or confidential information;
- Promotion of distribution of prohibited goods and services;
- Spam, Malware and Viruses;
- Illegal materials;
- Content which are for a purpose other than which we have designed them or intended them to be used.
- NTU reserves the right to suspend or terminate a User’s Account if it infringes on the above-mentioned term and condition, without necessarily providing any justification to the User. The User may also be reported to the relevant authorities;
- The opinions and assertions contained in the User’s Feed are that of the individual User’s own private views and does not necessarily reflect the official positions or policies of NTU.
Users may report any User who has infringed on the above-mentioned terms and conditions. NTU reserves the right to conduct a thorough investigation of any abuse cases reported. The User agrees to provide full cooperation to assist NTU in the investigation process. The decision made by NTU is final and binding.
5. Disclaimer
5.1 We will use reasonable endeavours to correct any errors or omissions as soon as practicable after being notified of them. However, we do not guarantee that the Services or the NTU Online Portal will be free of faults, and we do not accept liability for any such faults, errors or omissions.
5.2 We do not warrant that your use of the Services or the NTU Online Portal will be uninterrupted and we do not warrant that any information (or messages) transmitted via the Services or the NTU Online Portal will be transmitted accurately, reliably, in a timely manner or at all. Notwithstanding that we will try to allow uninterrupted access to the Services and the NTU Online Portal, access to the Services and the NTU Online Portal may be suspended, restricted or terminated at any time.
5.3 We do not give any warranty that the Services and the NTU Online Portal are free from viruses or anything else which may have a harmful effect on any technology.
5.4 We reserve the right to change, modify, substitute, suspend or remove without notice any information or Services on the NTU Online Portal from time to time. Your access to the NTU Online Portal and/or the Services may also be occasionally restricted to allow for repairs, maintenance or the introduction of new facilities or services. We will attempt to restore such access as soon as we reasonably can. For the avoidance of doubt, we reserve the right to withdraw any information or Services from the NTU Online Portal at any time.
5.5 We reserve the right to block access to and/or to edit or remove any material which in our reasonable opinion may give rise to a breach of these Terms and Conditions of Use.
